My yoga journey began during my second year of graduate school when I decided to
take a break from my studies and focus on personal and familial issues with
anxiety and depression. While I initially sought psychotherapy, I was directed
to yoga and was committed after my first class. I was able to see the
differences in myself from before my practice and after my practice. My mood
elevated and my anxiety decreased with every class I attended. My family and
friends noticed the difference in me and supported my decision to become a
certified yoga instructor. I found in my yoga studies that there is a strong
link with psychotherapy. During my yoga training, I returned to graduate school
and completed my Marriage and Family Therapy Degree at Bethel. I have been
teaching weekly yoga classes for two years and my desire for my future work is
to give the gift of yoga to my clients as a means to treat anxiety and
depression.
